3D model of the Homestead Hall furniture superstore template: an entrance hall with an information desk and a café, a showroom of room vignettes along a two-aisle path, a market hall of homeware gondolas, textile tables, a kitchen display and a rug gallery, a self-serve warehouse of pallet racking, eight checkout lanes and back of house, with labels naming the floor and wall finishes
The superstore template in Present mode: 4,864 m² (about 52,400 sq ft) with 678 items. Made in FloorPlanCraft.
  • 36 in(915 mm) clear for an accessible route between vignettes [1]
  • 60 ft²gross per occupant, the mercantile factor for sizing exits [2]
  • 300 ft²gross per occupant in storage and stock areas [2]
  • 38 in(965 mm) highest counter surface at an accessible check-out aisle [1]

PATHS, STOCK AND CHECKOUT

How wide should showroom aisles be, and what sizes the exits?

The 2010 ADA Standards give the width of an accessible route and the check-out aisle rules; the building code's occupant load factors size the exits for the sales floor and for stock areas; OSHA asks for clear, marked aisles wherever handling equipment moves stock. [1, 2, 3]

ROOMS AND ITEMS

What the superstore template includes

Homestead Hall is a 76 × 64 m plan walked in one direction: the entrance hall, then a showroom of 29 room suites (two settings on each floor) along two wide aisles, the market hall, the self-serve warehouse with 3 m aisles between racks, and eight checkout lanes by the exit. A smaller starter, Oak & Ember (32 × 32 m, about 11,000 sq ft, 17 vignettes round a loop), is in the template picker too. Item sizes are the planner's concept models, not a particular maker's products; check yours with the supplier.

QUESTIONS

Furniture store layout questions

How do you lay out a furniture store?

Large stores often lead shoppers along one path: room settings first, then smaller homewares, then a self-serve warehouse and the checkout. The superstore template is laid out that way; the Oak & Ember showroom puts its room settings round a single loop of aisles. Treat both as starting points for your own range and building.

How wide should showroom aisles be?

An accessible route between vignettes needs at least 36 in (915 mm) of clear width under the 2010 ADA Standards. Showrooms usually plan wider paths for groups and deliveries: the superstore's two showroom aisles are about 2.3 m and 4.8 m wide. Those are the template's choices, not a rule; your adopted building and fire codes set the exit paths. [1]

How wide should warehouse aisles be?

OSHA's materials handling rule sets no width: where mechanical handling equipment is used it asks for sufficient clearances for aisles, and for aisles kept clear and marked. The template leaves 3 m between pallet racks for flat-pack trolleys; size yours to your equipment and rack supplier. [3]

How many people can a furniture showroom hold?

For sizing exits, the building code counts one occupant per 60 ft² gross of sales floor and one per 300 ft² gross of storage and stock areas. The superstore's 1,620 m² showroom (17,438 ft²) gives about 291 people (17,438 ÷ 60). Those factors size exits; they are not a comfort figure. [2]

Will FloorPlanCraft check my store against the code?

No. Plan check flags overlapping items, blocked doorways and the clearance guidance it carries; the figures on this page are published planning references. A layout is a concept for discussion: confirm exits, racking and accessibility with your building authority and a qualified professional.

Do I need an account, and can I use it on a phone?

No account is needed to open the template, edit it and export a plan; sign in to save versions and publish a view-only link. You can read this page and open shared plans on a phone; for drawing the plan, use a desktop or laptop.
